We offer a number of programs for individuals who are interested in sport specific training. While each program is unique, all programs utilize our award-winning facility and some of the Triangle’s best instructors.
Triathlon - Our triathlon training programs are led by top triathlon coaches from the area. These programs typically run from 4-6 weeks and include a variety of learning formats. Classroom sessions, nutritional resources, demonstrations, technique training, drills, strength and cardiovascular training, and practice triathlons are all typically represented in these programs. Skiing - During the fall and winter months we offer several snow-sport training classes. These are designed for skiers and snowboarders of all abilities. Some specific programs may be more geared to beginners, while others may be more appropriate for intermediate to advanced snow sport enthusiasts. Masters Swim - The free Masters Swim classes are first-come, first-serve for a maximum of 15 adult members (no non-members, please). Coaches provide challenging workouts of 2000 to 3000 yards that focus mainly on the freestyle. Stroke technique is critiqued via poolside coaching and videotape analysis to help swimmers become more efficient and improve their stroke.
All master swimmers must be at least 22 years old and are required to demonstrate two skills during their first Masters Swim practice: (1) swim 50 yards continuously in less than 75 seconds, and (2) complete one of the workouts for that practice (the FAST lane - approximately 2000 yards total, the FASTER lane -- approximately 2500 yards total, or the FASTEST lane -- approximately 2500 yards total, or the FASTEST lane -- approximately 3000 yards). If they cannot meet these minimum requirements, then they will be directed to other adult aquatics programs for additional training.
Team UNC Wellness Multisport Club Whether you're a current or would-be endurance athlete, whether you compete in running races, triathlons, bike events, or adventure racing, if you're a UNC Wellness Center member, we'd love to have you join.
Join us in group training sessions, including the new, popular masters swim; indoor and outdoor group rides; social runs; and multisport-specific clinics. These sessions come at either no or reduced charge to Team UNC Wellness club members. Come train and learn with your friends, make some new ones, and receive advice from seasoned athletes and USAT certified coaches. We pitch a group tent at races both locally and across the state, and we'll give you an opportunity to volunteer as part of a group at local events.
Monthly club meetings feature expert presentations on topics important to endurance athletes, including nutrition, flexibility, injury prevention, and equipment choice and maintenance. We meet on the third Sunday of each month from 6:30 to 7:30pm. Your annual membership fee gains you entry to workouts, presentations, and social events.
